There had been some complaints that the concrete blocks across the Manga Pirau Street beach access were placed in a way that pedestrians couldn’t get through. They’ve now been shifted around a bit and people can walk through a gap that’s been created. The only real problem now is that there’s nowhere to go. The river is flowing very close to where the track is cut off. The photo below from 16 June 2022 shows the narrow strip of sand you could walk along.
According to the Horowhenua Neighbourhood Support Newsletter 3rd June 2022, there was a Burglary in Sarah St (20–50) on 30/5/2022.
This is the regular reminder to lock up your stuff and to join with neighbours in keeping a look out for people or cars behaving suspiciously.
Thanks to the weekly Neighbourhood Support New Zealand newsletter we know that recently there have been people or vehicles acting suspiciously and at least one burglary in Waikawa Beach.
The latest Criminal Occurrences listing shows that on 18 March 2022 there was a car or person acting suspiciously and on the same day a burglary around Waikawa Beach Rd (640–670). That’s roughly in the area between Walkers Lane and Sarah Street.
Over on the Waikawa Beach Facebook Page Charlie Strivens, Moderator, has offered to convene a Covid buddy system for Waikawa Beach. A Covid buddy would help someone get the things they need if they are isolating. In part, the post says:
Hi Community As the Omincron outbreak has been getting more serious I have been thinking about how our local community can be resilient and how how we can support each other.
