Starry Time: a casual hour of looking at stars with the naked eye or binoculars. All welcome. Come and join in!
I hope we can look at Mars, Venus, Large & Small Clouds of Magellan, Southern Cross, Milky Way, Arcturus, Canopus.
This is a very casual gathering to enjoy and learn a little about the night sky. You're welcome if you know nothing about the stars, and also if you do. Add your knowledge to the kete.
Winter Solstice is on Thursday 22 June 2023, so I’m planning a starwatching hour on Friday 16 June 2023, between 6.30 and 7.30 pm. (Depends on weather — might be a smidgeon of rain or cloud, we’ll just have to wait to see.)
Turn up on the beach off the Manga Pirau Street entrance. Bring binoculars if you have them, but you don’t need them. Wrap up warm. Sunset is at 5, so it should be fully dark by 6.30. High tide (3.2 metres) is at 8.25 so we shouldn’t get wet feet. Moon should be close to New (ie barely visible).
