As at 25 November 2022 the new toilet block is effectively finished. No photos of the outside this time as there are no noticeable changes since last week.
But this time we have views of the interiors, the BBQ area and the outdoor showers.
There’s an electric BBQ with bilingual instructions. There’s a rubbish bin only a few steps away. The BBQ stands next to the pump housing, which has a special tap to allow the nearby firefighting water tank to be refilled.
There are two outdoor showers, and a tap nearby you could wash off your feet under, in case you don’t want the full shower experience.
The inside areas have been painted in bright and cheerful colours. One room is set aside for storage for the Waikawa Beach Ratepayers Association which has all kinds of papers, archives and equipment to stow in there. That room also has several power outlets.
One small room has a bench, some coat hooks and a baby change table. That room could be used for getting changed, nursing, or dealing with small children.
There are two toilets, with baby change tables, coat hooks, handrails and modern fittings for hand washing. On the Manga Pirau Street side there are louvres for ventilation and a solar tube for additional lighting. On the Hank Edwards Reserve side there are no louvres, so there are a couple of ventilation hoods.
The doors have magnetic locks, and at this stage it’s intended the rooms be closed from around 8 pm to 7 am each day.
What is unfinished: builders are waiting on a water filter and a couple of lightbulbs. Presumably a certification process also needs to take place.
The grounds around the block need to be regrassed and the planter boxes filled.
Once the fence around the new block is taken down then the AED will be attached to the wall below a light on the Manga Pirau Street side.
There may also be more signage to be put up (such as the warning that used to be on the old block about the water not being suitable for drinking).
